This is the best restaurant in Bailey's Harbor, which mostly has pubs and burger places (except for the Harbor House fish place). It's on the main street, with a view of Lake Michigan. The menu is unusual in that it doesn't offer appetizers, main courses, etc. Instead they label their food 'Small' 'Medium' and 'Large' dishes. The large will leave you enough for tomorrow's lunch. Food selection is interesting, ranging from burgers to steaks, spanish and asian selections. Great selection of beers and wine and attentive service. Two or three other restaurants have failed in this location; we hope they make it!

I couldn't stomach the thought of another fish fry or more gut-bombing WI food, and chose Chives for our last dinner during our stay in Door County. It was wonderful, and just about perfect. The ambiance, food, and service were all stellar. The seasonal menu has a little bit of everything: fresh fish, chicken, pasta, all made with local ingredients. Cocktails are great too. We started with the beet salad and a mixed greens with buttermilk dressing. The dressing was obviously homemade, and very delicious. My husband had the halibut, which was tender, flaky, and very flavorful; an excellent choice. I chose the chicken marsala, and I really enjoyed it. The sauce and mushrooms were very savory, and the chicken was moist. Perfect portion size too. Although we were too full for dessert, that generally never stops us when we see something we want to try, and the seasonal fruit cobbler (peach and blueberry) was gobbled up in record time. Chives is a wonderful addition to Door County, and a welcome respite from all the supper clubs that are so prevalent. Definitely the dining highlight during our five-day stay in DC. A little pricier than most restaurants here, but more than worth it.

Oh my mouthgasm bliss. Warm squash salads to blossom your mind with silky edible flowers and pine nuts. Goat cheese skillets with warm pita to warm the pallet, and they even made an old fashioned I enjoyed. I generally avoid them due to the oftenfuckup but this was perfect. Paleo and keto friendly options easily found.

Delightful. Went for happy hour, which is very good, then decided to try some food. The warm summer squash salad was excellent. Our happy hour drinks were well worth it, they were yummy. We had the goat cheese wontons and the goat cheese dip, all very well prepared and reasonably priced for such good food. Would definitely go back.

Had dinner there with my wife. Get the crab cakes they are awesome. I had the hangar steak the wife had a sodality burger. Drinks from the cocktail menus must be tried. Truly a great upscale dinning experience without the fuss. Our dinner was around 100$ but worth it. Great view, service and food. Eat here if you can. Might want to call ahead too. Enjoy!!

My new favorite restaurant in Door Co. Great menu!!! You can eat well for $10-$15 or go all out for $30-$50... Amazing frites. Best Burger in Door (due largely to the bacon jam). Great small plates and starters and a solid mixology program.

Excellent drinks and bartender. Most bland pork loin I have ever had and ver over cooked, along with dry and boring potato pancake. Good apps. Mediocre service. Extreme disappointment for the price.

We had a great meal at Chives. The food was outstanding. It reminded me why I love going out to fine restaurants. Our server was on top of her game, didn't miss a beat. The reason I'm only giving them 4 stars is because as we were finishing up our coffees they told us they needed the table and asked us to take it to the bar. Since there were empty tables all around us, and since we weren't by any stretch dilly-dallying, I thought this was very tacky. And it left a bad taste in my mouth. The sad thing is we were just about to leave on our own. I'm willing to chalk it up as an error in judgement though, and would give them another chance possibly. I doubt my dinner companions will though... they were pissed!

The steak frites was great last year; this year we both ordered it and the steak was tough. Disappointed, because last time we thot it the best restaurant in the county on the basis of my steak frites and her chicken marsala. Super fries, great oysters. Server said she would pass along our comments on the steak.

I wish I could give this place 4 and a half stars. The food was really good. We had the strip steak special and the beef cheek and both were fantastic. The wine selection is good and our appetizers were really great. Server was attentive, albeit a little forgetful.

We come to Door County every summer and always eat at the same restaurants. This summer we decided to step outside the box and try something new, and I'm so glad we did. Chives was amazing, a delightful wonderous culinary experience. We came for dinner after not being able able to make a reservation at Chop (allegedly the #1 restaurant in Door County) we may never ever try Chop because Chives was just THAT good. Amazing prompt server, appetizers of crab cakes and beets were scrumptious. Our entrée options; Filet, bacon jam burger, sword fish and beef cheeks were delicious! all of us were eating off of each others plates. Highly recommend that burger, one of the best I've ever had!!! My fiancé and I have eaten at an array of fine dining establishments all over the world and this place was simply outstanding, it's about time the peninsula got some nice restaurants! Keep it up Chives, you have for sure won our business! On a side note there were no cider options from the bar.... Most places I go to these days have SOMETHING to pick from!

Our meal was as close to perfect as it gets. I had steak and my partner had the lamb. Service was impeccable, the lamb prepared exactly right, the steak was rare just as I like it. The delight was fresh strawberry shortcake made with local berries. The chef uses local products as much as possible, so "fresh" is not just an adjective here. My partner had a pomegranate martini that was appropriately tart; my 3 Sheeps black wheat beer was a beer lovers dear--very smooth and flavorful. The food here is succulent, scintillating, seductive. What a wonderful new addition to Door County's list of excellent restaurants. We certainly will be back!

Door County has a new culinary star at Chives. Occupying the old Common House location in Bailey's Harbor with lovely water views, the room has a fresh look. Overall the food was wonderful and the service excellent. We started with a soup described on the menu as Crab Chowder. We got the bowl ($6) to split. While the soup was delicious with a very homemade, fresh ingredient approach, we both agreed it needed more crab if crab was in the name. We felt a smaller portion with more crab would have been better. Next we had two small plates - Crispy Pork Belly Rillons with Pepper Jam. These were nuggets of pork belly that had been deep fried. On the side was not so much a pepper jam as a sweet chili sauce. I'm really glad that we ordered these with the Roasted Beets Whipped Goat Cheese, Citrus Marinated Hearts of Palm, & Spiced Walnuts as the two dishes worked nicely together. The salad had nice, large chunks of red and yellow beets and the acid was necessary to cut the rather rich and heavy pork belly. If ordered alone, I think the pork belly would benefit from some acid on the plate like some sliced granny-smith apples, some tomatoes or even a small salad with vinaigrette. The true star of the evening, however, was the morel encrusted halibut served over cauliflower "risotto". The morels were so buttery and savory and the fish so perfectly cooked that it drew raves from both of us. The portion was rather large - two of us could not finish it. Our young server was a total pro. Responsive, attentive and very polite. Will definitely be back. Highly recommended.

Worst fish fry I've ever had in my life. And I've had many. The Bloody Mary was just zing zang mix.... This was the saltiest most garlic filled meal I've ever had. The breading on the cod was raw. They had no local fish on the menu and I can see Lake Michigan. Wow. So incredibly disappointed. Should have just gone to wild tomato like I wanted.

Had the ribeye on "Chive" fries. Steak was tender and cooked perfectly. Delicious. We had crab cakes and wonton appetizers and both were very good.

Chives has a pleasant atmosphere, attentive waitstaff (keep the wine flowing, please!), and delicious food. You can't go wrong in Bailey's Harbor (or Door County!).

Incredible new addition to Door County. Greeted warmly at the door and had 2 old fashioneds before eating. Crap cakes were some of the best we ever had, french onion soup as well. we had the filet special and the ribeye. if they offer the filet, get it!! staff was friendly and excited. we will be back!

Overpriced and poorly cooked red meat. Also, I am not sure why a place in Wisconsin would have so much seafood from the east coast on its menu. The atmosphere was decent, but for the price it was very disappointing.

Chives is aiming high, but stretching and struggling to meet its goal based on our visit. Though the menu showed creativity and passion, the execution was uneven. Starters included oysters; can these be tasty in Door County? I took the chance but to my palate they weren't up to par; I went against my inclination that shellfish is best close to the source and wasn't thrilled with the outcome. There were no vegetarian options on the menu, but our server suggested and the chef followed through with mushroom risotto which was excellent. Lobster bisque and salmon entree were both heavily salted. We had a delicious Pinot noir from a deep wine list. In sum, it's hard to consistently deliver at a high level but enough good is going on to give it another chance.

Good new restaurant in Bailys Harbor. In old Savuer space and re done nicely. Fairly priced and good beer/wine list. Steak with fries was great as well as their Caesar salad. Enjoyed the fish and chips as well and were very good. The only dish I wasn't thrilled about was the truffled mushroom risotto. I think the truffle flavor was lacking. All In all this is a good restaurant and would go back again. Good service too

I guess I will never understand why people pay so much to dine for small portions of food that taste mediocre. My fish was the size of a bar of soap. It was good, but $36 is ridiculous. I guess you pay for the fancy name and the chic decour. No thanks. The next night we went to The Shoreline in Gills Rock. I got the breaded flounder. It was huge and amazing--$14.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! Can I live there?!? We arrived at about 9pm, and got a table right away. Granted, it is not quite the season in DC yet, but it was opening weekend. Our server was Maria, who was great - not too attentive, but not ignoring us, either. I had three small plates, starting with chicken and goat cheese wontons with apricot preserves and Sriracha. They were perfectly fried, not greasy, and the flavors were balanced exactly. I then had a Caesar salad and creamy mushroom soup. Both were divine, and anyone who goes out a bunch knows that a restaurant can make it or break it on the simple dishes. They made it, for sure!! My bf had the cod fish fry - easily the best in town, and one of my top 3 in all of WI!!!! And I'm born & raised, so this isn't my first rodeo ;) Batter was nice and light, both in color and texture, the plate had three large pieces resting on a HUGE mound of hand cut frites!!! The fish was moist and flakey, and the tartar sauce was excellent, but not your usual mayo and relish kind. LOVED IT ALL. my bf also had a lovely black wheat from 3 Sheeps Brewery, which is a WI business, but a newish one, and you don't find them everywhere. So even though I didn't have a drink, I was won over by that, as well. If you only go to one restaurant in DC, GO HERE.

Excellent food and atmosphere. We had the calamari appetizer, yellowfin tuna small plate and lamb pappardelle. All were very good, especially the calamari. Unlike other places it is thick pieces of octopus with a light batter coating - wonderful. The tuna was very small but fairly called a "small plate." I had a blueberry martini which was tasty but very light on the alcohol. My husband's Old Fashioned was weak as well. I would suggest wine or beer instead. Other diners with us got the steak large plate which was huge and got rave reviews. The French fries were delicious and garlicky. Looking forward to eating here again next trip to Door County! I would make a reservation to sit in the "library" if you have a smaller party, it's beautiful.
